Vintage 1920's "Arctic Aire" Electric Oscillating Fan
The first electric fan was introduced in 1882. Early electric fans were found only in commercial buildings or in elegantly wealthy homes. By the 1920's, mass production enabled most homes to own an electric fan, usually very plain black models. Once production costs opened the market for every home to own an oscillating electric fan, decor of the era began influencing design and color options. Owning a stylish fan became a symbol of status and prestige.
