An Alternative to Vent-Free Gas Fires
These GEL ALCOHOL BOWLS may be the perfect solution for your old fireplaces.
Gel fires are designed as an alternative to candles, so while these products can be burned as a tabletop accent, they may also be used to offer a "real fire" in old, historic fireplaces or to create a faux fireplace. No gas lines, no power cords. Simple and easy to use!
These decorative containers use gel alcohol fuel, packaged in cans 4" tall x 3-1/2" diameter. The entire can is placed into the decorative gel burner, then lit with a long fireplace match. Each can burns for 2-3 hours and produces about 3,000 btu's.

We discovered this metal planter set in a copper verdi finish that looks elegant in the fireplace, and each vase will actually hold a can of gel fuel. You may also use it with large pillar candles, or to hold greenery in your fireplace in the off season. The 4-piece set includes the stand with gracefully bowed legs, and 3 removable planters with pointed bottoms. Overall assembled measurement is 22-1/2" wide, 14" tall, 7-1/2" deep.

The firebowl and gel fuel that I ordered on Friday arrived on Tuesday. I lost no time setting it up after work and am delighted with the results. At some point, I may acquire a fret and/or a firescreen as the box alone looks a little stark, but the height of the flames, the flickering light they throw around the room, and the intensity of the heat are exactly the effects I'd hoped for. The fuel even crackles slightly! The firebowl is a brilliant idea.
