Summer covers, or summer doors, were originally used as a means of closing off the fireplace and chimney before dampers were invented. The door allows you to seal off the fireplace when a fire is burning down to embers, or when the fireplace is not in use to help prevent heat loss up the chimney.

 

Since arched style cast iron surrounds were the most popular, our debut summer cover door model features an arched top, an adjustable bolt on the back to accommodate various size arch surrounds, and gasketing that you may install for a tight fitting seal.
 

Our design is versatile enough to fit a wide variety of arched fireplace openings, from 15-1/2" wide to 18-1/2" wide and an opening height up to 26" tall. Includes 2 brass knobs on the front; twist the knobs to enable an L bracket to twist on the back to insert or remove the summer cover. The covers are made of 22 gauge sheet metal with a brushed nickel style finish.

 

May also be painted or faux-finished with any color of high temperature paint, such as stove, grill or auto paint. We also include gasketing material to help assure a tighter fit than original models, keeping room air in and preventing cold down drafts from the chimney.
